Short Summary of the Update: Overdue. Long Summary of the Update: With no option to not generate the ugly terrain, the caves remain as they are: Too ugly to enjoy. Its sad how Granite, Diorite and Andesite still lower the experience and immersion and all of that. Its sad how unbearably ugly the Caves are and how simple the generation anyway. I see no reason why i should go down there.

The game as singleplayer still is essentially dead because no intelligent AI. U can build big stuff but its always empty and more or less just a 3d voxel model for me.

Id guess there probably will never be an upgrade path because of the change in build and depth limit, the new chunk borders would have to build some funky bedrock walls when ajacent to old chunks so you couldnt dig down in a new chunk, mine accross to an old chunk and fall out of the void. The generation code might be so different that there is no smooth way to transition between old and new chunks too

I think those huge caves might be too common, they're everywhere. I hope it's just for the snapshot, I don't want the entire underground to be a huge cavern.

No one mentions the fact that players with pre 1.17 worlds will theoretically be able to go far out to unexplored regions, dig down to the negatives, dig a tunnel back towards pre 1.17 chunks and be under old bedrock and potentially fall into the void.

Or there will be massive +64 blocks of chunks on the version border (if u understand what i mean)? If it of course will work anyhow, i mean old worlds do not work on 1.17 rn

I’m actually more excited about the larger world height! Here comes more epic/realistic terrain. With a mod, I’m sure it’d be possible to lower the ocean height by 64 blocks or more. That would leave plenty of room for some very large scale terrain (which just looks better and feels better to play on, in my opinion).

increasing the total height of the terrain is good but having negative Y coordinates is the wrong way to represent it, bedrock needs to remain at y=0

They've got to make diamonds rarer. They'll just be way too easy to find, especially with a night vision potion

If you're loading a world from 1.16 into a stable 1.17 release, will the new world height apply to loaded chunks? And will the extra 64 underground blocks generate under loaded chunks? or do I have to copy everything into a new world?

In my opinion, there are too many caves now. So you see in the video how much stuff is underground. I think it would be nicer to have a few less caves, but bigger ones. It know it's "mine" craft and caving is a big part of it, but I imagine exploring one cave and in the end I'm at the world border just because nearly all caves are connected.

But if they allow you to upgrade your worlds and keep the old chunks the same, then there will be a 64 block gap between the old and new bedrock levels. So if they're gonna allow you to update older worlds I really wonder how they would go about doing it...

Minecraft should have flashlights so you can see from a distance. Torches just aren't gunna do it any more

yeah and maybe they can add a Samsung Galaxy tab so you can play Flappy bird or use the gps feature to find everything for you.
